Way back in December 2007 I posted SEO is it a Con purely and simply because I had no understanding about SEO,I had just started this site and when investigating SEO it just seemed a big con.

Well the better part of 12 months later have my views changed .Not really ,this site is for fun and hopefully helps one or two people along the way,but I can understand now why SEO is important to the business community. Its pretty simple really get noticed and people will generally buy from you,get trusted and they almost certainly will.

I suppose the real difficulty is the amount of sites that promise to get your site rated number one and all that sort of blurb I mean who can you trust.

And then you have to consider the Search Engines themselves ,what are the rules to get rated is it just good content etc.it seems to me they could change their rating criteria just to ensure that their profits are not harmed.

SEO confuses me so I generally ignore it and if someone finds this site from Google and then uses one of the affiliate links to buy something I am happy, actually very happy because it does not happen that often.

If you are interested in the SEO mystery this site should help you unravel it and just maybe it will make more sense to you then it does to me.

I have just installed the RecentPost Plug-in designed by Rob Marsh on this site and www.ipod2go.co.uk.

This is so configurable I hardly no where to start. The basic idea is that it displays the most recent posts but added to this is the ability to show recent posts if the Tag matches or recent posts are in the same category,it also can make the recent posts display disappear if there are no match’s.

I really am not doing this plug-in justice nip over to the authors website for more details.

A clearer implementation of this plug-in can be seen on www.ipod2go.co.uk trying clicking the posts in tab widget and watch the Recents Posts change to reflect the category.

I was looking for a way to import csv files into Wordpress and could not find anything without spending some cash so going against my usual philosophy I purchased Import CSV pro for $99 dollars (about £50).

Now I am sure that some one some where will have made this sort of script for free but I could not find anything like this without paying .

So what does it do.Basically it takes a comma delimited file and imports this as posts into Wordpress. It works pretty well though the documentation is a bit ropey and I had to experiment a bit to get it to work properly.

You can timestamp posts so they are published on a future date and make use of custom fields .Basically you can create thousands of posts and drip feed them onto your site so you have a constant stream of content.

The obvious use for this would be to take a affiliate merchant feed and load your site with a constant stream of products.

Be warned though all this does is create posts which are copies of the merchants sites so you still have to do some work on each post to create some uniqueness.

I am not sure how much use I will get form Import CSV Pro and I may regret spending the money time will tell.I am going to load one of my sites today using Import CSV Pro and if there is any interest I will give more detail on how I get on.

Got a Question

I suspect given that my conversion rate is pretty low that there is some reluctance on the visitor to accept that there is nothing dodgy going on when they click on a link that takes them to a totally different site.

If you consider that I posted about a TV from Play that I purchased (and I really did buy it) it got loads of views and clicks to Plays site yet not one sale.I wonder how many visitors went on to Play and purchased directly.

I think there might be some view that sites like this make massive amounts of money through using Affiliate links, and I am sure there are sites that do,unfortunately this is not one of them.

Anyway the aim of this site as never been to make me a vast fortune its just a bit of fun that every now and then generates a bit of cash that hopefully covers the hosting costs of the site.

This is a Ajaxified (is that a word) plugin that seems to interact rather nicely with the ipod2go setup. It also comes with a couple of widgets to display either Most Rated or Highest Rated.

Now this is more likely to be my ability then any fault with their setup but I need easy, this coupled with the fact i wanted to put a content page on my other site www.iPod2go.co.uk.

So while browsing the net today I came across Paid On Results which not only have merchants that tie in with my site but also have the easiest content generator that I have come across.

You can see the results on this page of iPod2go,pretty nifty .I might consider joining some of their other merchants if they are all as easy as this.

You to can join Paid On Results if you have your own website.

After delving deeper into why the cformsII plugin would not install using the auto update. What I first thought were a load of different errors actually related to write permissions (or so I thought).

I CHMOD the cformsII directory and subdirectories to 777 using FileZilla (allow writing etc) and tried the auto update again only to find that it still would not update. The final error message being could not create directory cforms.

Well not being the most patient of people I have this morning deleted the cformsII plugin and done a complete upload and reinstall.

Well touch wood all seems well I am now running cformsII (8.6) with no issues.I am going to give it a day then I am going to update my other sites using the same method.
